International Day of Education
January 24 is International Day of Education. The right to education is a human right. A human right manifested within the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights from 1948. It is also one of the main goals of their 2030 Agenda. The connection of education and human rights is essential in many ways. It is a chance for those less privileged, a door opening into a safe and self-determined life.
Unfortunately, conflict, poverty and inequality reign many regions on this globe. And therefore, many children are denied access to proper educational systems, even to properly constructed school buildings. Learning conditions and environments need to be improved in order to achieve an adequate education.
International Day of Education 2022 aims to showcase the most crucial changes we have to commit to in order to realize every human beings fundamental right to education. It also strives to show how to build a more sustainable, inclusive and peaceful future. Educational systems need to be strengthened and perceived as a common good, with many challenges ahead such as the digital transformation and the support of teachers (source: https://www.un.org/en/observances/education-day).
